MY CRITIQUE ON 24 HOUR FITNESS -Final Project-

24 Hour fitness is the world largest privately owned and operated fitness center chain, it currently has 425 clubs and over 20,000 employees.

Target Audience: In my opinion, the target market is very wide. Adults of any age that wants to reach a fitness goal or maintain their body in shape.

Layout: 24 hour fitness utilizes a 3-column structure, with a top navigation that takes up almost all the width of the page. I like their layout and I think it is effective. The left photo takes up two columns, and everything else in nicely set up in the grids.

Color Palette: The bright tones of the home page site makes it pleasant to the eyes. The use of reds and blues is working well, it almost seems like the red was used to represent the goals (training goals).  I like the use of grays in the top logo area. I am not to sure about their consistency, trough out the site the color palette changes a lot. What I dislike the most is when you get to shop and when you open different pages from the drop down menu they look and feel different from the rest. Even the logo changes, the red background color that seems to follow all trough out the site becomes blue like the background. In other pages it becomes white… In my opinion, this site needs more color palette cohesiveness.

Typography: The typography works for most of the site, it could have been a set point bigger in certain areas (like images) with a bit more space in between lines.

Navigation: I am not to happy with the initial page of the site where you chose if you are a member or not and then you enter the site. I think there was no need for an extra initial page for that. The top navigation on the site it’s ok, I wish it was a bit bolder and set with more tracking to fill the whole width of the page. I also, don’t understand why they used those + signs next to the words, it’s not very pleasant to the eyes. Their navigation it’s very common with drop down menus. It also seems like they forgot to change the color for the roll over navigation on Home and My membership cause after you visit the page it doesn’t turn white like the others.

For a big company like 24 hour fitness I think they could have paid more attention to details, but all and all the site function well for it’s need.
